The dual model of education, which is widely applied throughout Europe, will begin to be applied in BiH as well. As Bojan Domić, the Minister of Education, Science, Youth, Culture and Sports of the Central Bosnian Canton (SBK), said, the goal is for this legal solution to follow the labor market and to modernize the education system and in some way harmonize it with the best practices in the EU.
The current educational system of vocational schools is based on the theoretical principle, but also on the practical one that takes place in schools. However, the problem of practical teaching in schools is often accompanied by a lack of equipment that secondary schools cannot afford. Although they try in every way to get the necessary equipment for the normal conduct of practical classes, the ministries often remain deaf to the cries of the schools.
That is why it is a much better option for practical classes to take place at employers, where students will see first-hand how the processes within the company take place and where they will acquire the necessary skills for the labor market. In this way, they will be more competitive in the labor market and will be able to find a job more easily after finishing school.
This internship, which will be paid, will also serve those who want to continue their education to see where their careers can go. In this way, before university education, they will acquire some practical knowledge that will help them master the material more easily. Because only theoretical knowledge is not enough without practice in which they acquire the necessary skills for work.
As Minister Domić himself said, “the point is that there will be no vocational education without someone from the real sector” where employers will be able to train workers but still invest in them.
In addition to SBK, the West Herzegovina Canton also introduced this practice a little earlier, which should be applied throughout the country so that students do not “wander” with their interests and job searches.
