The Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Bosnia and Herzegovina prepared a report on the circulation of medicines in our country during the past year, which is based on data on the realized import of foreign medicines in BiH as well as data on the circulation of domestically produced medicines.
As stated in the report, last year the turnover of domestic drug manufacturers in BiH amounted to 202,461,302.00 KM, while 978,883,756.43 marks were spent on the import of drugs.
In total, during the year 2025, the realized turnover of medicines amounted to 1,181,345,058.43 KM.
As stated by the Medicines Agency, the largest financial turnover in 2025 was realized in the following groups of medicines:
– antineoplastics and immunomodulators (medicines for the treatment of malignant diseases and regulation of the immune system) in the amount of 242.5 million KM, which is 20.53 percent of the total turnover;
– medicines for alimentary tract and metabolism – 185.3 million KM (15.69 percent);
– medicines for the cardiovascular system – 172 million KM (14.56 percent);
– medicines that affect the blood and blood-forming organs – 117 million KM (9.90 percent) and
– medicines for the nervous system – 116.9 million KM (9.90 percent).
At the level of individual therapy groups, the highest turnover was achieved by:
– antineoplastics (medicines for the treatment of malignant diseases);
– antihyperglycemics (medicines for the treatment of diabetes);
– drugs that act on the renin-angiotensin system (for the treatment of hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases);
– antithrombotic agents (anticoagulants) i
– antibacterial drugs for systemic use (antibiotics).
The Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of BiH noted that their report contains data on the circulation of drugs expressed in financial value, and not data on the actual consumption of drugs by the population, that is, on the number of drug packages issued.
