The German government is open to the plan of the European Union to release the frozen Russian property for Ukraine, a government source for Reuters said on Monday.

The EU plan is to send Ukraine to 200 billion euros ($ 235 billion) of the Russian Cash held in the Belgian Depositary and replace the EU-Support Bonds, according to politicians.

The plan, which would help finance Ukraine support in the middle of uncertainty about the obligations of the United States under Kiev under the President Donald Trump, is likely to dominate the EU informal summit in Copenhagen next week.

So far, the EU has only taken interest rated from Russian property, which is frozen after Moscow invasion in Ukraine in February 2022. years.

Germany, the EU largest economy and the second largest military financier of Ukraine, has previously expressed legal concerns about any proposals for full seized assets. However, the Minister of Finance Lars Klingbeil indicated that Berlin reconsidered his position on this legally sensitive question.

– The German government is open to the debate on the new European Commission’s proposals – said the government source, without confirming the exact details of the plan.
