Barcelona: A man was brutally liquidated in front of the police station

Catalan police said the suspect shot the victim in the head at 8:50 a.m. in the elite Barcelona neighborhood of Sant Gervasi-Galvany, also known as “Hollywood Hills.”

The murder took place at the intersection of Balmes and Granada del Penedes streets, in front of the police office in charge of issuing identity documents.

According to one witness, the attacker followed the victim, then approached her from behind and shot her in the head.

After that, he approached the victim and fired another bullet, and then, convinced that the victim was dead, he fled in the direction of the Sagrada Familia, a famous unfinished basilica and one of the main tourist attractions of Barcelona, ​​about a 30-minute walk away.

The police launched an extensive search for the attacker, and the crime scene was cordoned off and weapons were seized.

The identity of the murdered person and the motive for the attack are still unknown.

About 6,000 police officers have been deployed across the city to ensure security measures ahead of the visit of the Pope, who is scheduled to arrive at the Sagrada Familia in the afternoon.

Police told Spanish media, including Antena 3, that the murder had nothing to do with the Pope’s visit.

Daniel Sirera, president of the conservative People’s Party and a city councillor, criticized the authorities for what he said was an inadequate response to the rise in crime in the city.

– Another murder in broad daylight. It’s the seventh in just two months – he wrote on the X platform.

He requested an urgent meeting of city authorities to discuss what he called the “inactivity” of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Catalan President Salvador Illo and Mayor Jaume Collboni.

Mayor Collboni has previously called for an increased police presence and tougher penalties due to the rise in deaths linked to drug trafficking and organized crime.

This is the second shooting in Barcelona in the last three days. On Sunday, a man believed to be a Serbian national was shot dead four times in the Sants-Montjuic area, a popular tourist area about three kilometers from the site of this latest attack.

Police described the suspect as “a large man in his thirties, about 1.8 meters tall”, dressed in black during the attack.

According to the police, it is suspected that rival Balkan criminal groups could be behind the shooting.
