“The investigation will clarify what kind of weapon was used to cause the external strike,” Transport Minister Rashad Nabiyev said, according to Azerbaijan’s state-run Azertag news agency.
Nabiyev said the wreckage and witness statements indicated the plane was damaged externally over the original airport in Grozny, the capital of the Russian republic of Chechnya.
“According to this [izjavama]the noise of an explosion was heard outside, and then something hit the plane,” he said, reports Hina.
At the time the plane was damaged on Wednesday morning, Russian air defenses were reportedly engaged in a battle with Ukrainian drones in the region. Nabiyev did not specify who shot at the plane.
