Exclusive video obtained by the Al Arabiya television network shows ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad telling his media adviser: “May God’s curse be on Gouth.”
In the video, which shows Assad behind the wheel at an undisclosed location in Syria, Luna al-Shibl asks the former president: “We are leaving Ghouta soon, what will we say?”
Assad then laughed and replied: “May God’s curse be on Gouth, they should be slaughtered”.
A highly controversial video
Al Arabiya channel obtained a leaked recording of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during a conversation with his adviser, Luna al-Shibl.

In another video, al-Shibl boasts about Syria’s military capabilities and downplays the tactical capabilities of Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
– We also have rockets. The Syrian army has learned and gained experience that it can now transfer to other armies. The Russians said it. At first Hezbollah said, “We are masters of street fighting; we know it.” But now they are silent, they are no longer heard – she said.
Al-Shibl, who died in July 2024 after injuries sustained in a car accident, asked Assad in the video how he feels when he sees his posters on the streets of Syria.
Assad replied: “Honestly, I don’t feel anything… my eyes don’t see them, and neither does my mind.”
On December 8, Syria marks one year since the lightning offensive that toppled the Assad regime.
