As reported by Soviet Sport, the former coach of FC Sochi, Robert Moreno, turned to artificial intelligence.
This season, Sochi is returning to the Russian Premier League, and won it through the playoffs from the second league. They are not exactly in the best situation because after the 18th round they are last with only nine points won.
As expected, coach Moreno “paid with his head” for that, and the Russian public got an unusual insight into his actions from the now former director of the club, Andrei Orlov.
In an interview with Russian media, Orlov shared the story of how Moreno overused Chat GPT to make some decisions. He pointed out that he asked Chat GPT to plan his trip to distant Khabarovsk (the easternmost city with a club in the second league.)

Since it is a very long and exhausting away game, Moreno wanted to find the most effective way to prepare his players. However, he didn’t get a very useful answer as the AI suggested that he keep the players awake for 28 hours at a time.
When he realized that it didn’t make any sense, he adjusted his question and got a new answer – that players wake up at five in the morning and train at seven. So he did. It was not clear to the players why they had to do that, but given that they won the game against SKA 1:0, it obviously worked.
And it didn’t end there. The Russian portal states that Moreno used Chat GPT as an assistant in player selection. He presented the artificial intelligence with the profiles of three strikers who were the target of the transfer: Vladimir Pisarski, Pavel Meljošin and Artur Shušenačev. She chose Shušenačev, and he did not score a single goal in ten games, Sportske novosti reports.
Although Moreno later denied using Chat GPT, the Russian public is still riding the wave of this ridiculous story as the Spanish coach waits for his next job.
