The court in the Danish city of Odense sentenced Amira Smajić, originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, to 18 months in prison, among other things, for the criminal offense of serious fraud and forgery.
She became known to the Danish public as the main protagonist of the documentary film “Black Swan”, which shocked the whole of Denmark because of everything she said in it.
Ali Najei, an author who believed that Amira Smajić would help him with a project with young people, was also among those deceived.
However, she forged a letter from the National Board of Health and Social Care, assuring Najei that his project related to vulnerable groups among young people had official support.
“She used both me and my soul, because she knew how much I wanted to do that project,” he said and added that he was glad that everything was finished, and that he believed that she herself would realize that what she did was not okay.
By the way, the last judgment specifically referred to the fraud of the famous actress Denica Klarskov, who was a client of Amira Smajić. Namely, she paid her to finish a case for her, which Smajić never did, and she took the money.
The actress is not satisfied with the verdict, stressing that Smajić is still “costly”, partly because of court costs, partly because of everything else.
One of the things that Amira Smajić admitted during the trial is that she defrauded the Islamic Community of Bosniaks in Denmark for a little over 1.2 million Danish crowns – for which she was also found guilty.
The organization’s representative, Azmir Salihović, told the Danish media that the Islamic community in Denmark received this verdict with mixed feelings:
“On the one hand, we are relieved that the case is closed and that justice has been fully served. The verdict sends a strong signal that financial malfeasance and abuse of trust will not be tolerated, and we hope it can serve as a warning to others,” he wrote in a written reply to TV 2 after the verdict was pronounced, adding that he was looking forward to the possibility of returning the funds.
