Tomorrow night Germany and Turkey play the large final of the Eurobasket 2025, and among coaches behind the success of the German team, Alan Ibrahimagić, auxiliary coach and former basketball player born in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
His calm, meticulousness and modesty won players and colleagues, while his story is inspiration and proof of how much persistence can bring top results.
He was born in Belgrade in 1978. because his mother was on his studio there, but after three days he arrived in Rodni Zvornik
Ibrahimagić spent his childhood in Zvornik, where he started training basketball before the aggression on BiH in 1992. forced his family to relocate to Germany.
In Berlin, he quickly fit through the sport, playing in youth clubs, including the famous Alba. His basketball career was not linear – after three years spent in Australia, where he has gained citizenship, he returned to Germany and headed for coaching water.
– The parents had a lot of relatives in Australia, and they could not stay in Germany and headed there, not to say that I was forced. I was two and a half years in Australia. The basket started in Zvornik, and I played in the Albe Youth Drive, then when Svetislav Pešić was the first coach, and Emir Mutapcic led another team – Ibrahimagic said earlier.
In Australia, since 1998. until 2001. year, when he returned to Germany, and for 2003. years decided for retirement.
Ibrahimagić built his coaching career from working with younger categories, leading teams in German youth selections, and since 2011. He was auxiliary coach in Alba, under the coaching bat of Gordon Herbert. His commitment and talent were recognized by the German Basketball Association (DBB), who hired him as a coach of the national team by 16, 18 and 20 years, where he achieved successful successes, including medals at the European Championships at the age of 19 years.
Its ability to develop young talents, but also to build team chemistry, is especially important in the German national team, where many players know more from youth days. Among them are Brothers Wagner – Franc and Moric – as well as Justus Holac. Moric Vagner, I am a top player, points out Ibrahimagic as one of his favorite people in basketball, praising his ability to read team dynamics and builds excellent relationships within the team.
On this Eurobasket, the German team under Ibrahimagić’s leadership is a serious favorite to win the title.
His story of a boys who at war had to leave the homeland, through the climb in German basketball, to the role of one of the key people on the European Final, is inspiring and inspiring.
