Zenica Cantonal Hospital refuses to accept biological material and embryos from the Polyclinic for Biomedically Assisted Fertilization NorthWestern Medical Center Sarajevo, citing the lack of guidelines.
After the story about irregularities in the work of this polyclinic, in which, after its sudden closure without explanation, 400 frozen embryos of married couples remained, to the address of the editorial office BHRT– and the testimonies of patients who had similar or the same problems in the legal predecessor of this clinic, New Life Sarajevo, have arrived. After a joint report by a group of female patients due to all observed irregularities that they submitted to the competent health, inspection and judicial institutions – the Medical Chamber of the Federation – confirmed that one of the two main doctors at the New Life polyclinic – Ali Seven, does not have a license to work in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“We inform you that Dr. Ali Seven does not have a license to work in the aforementioned chamber,” was the response of the KS medical chamber.
Although the doctor was working without a license, the Institute of Health Insurance and Reinsurance of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina referred patients to that polyclinic. Polyclinic New life was on the list of those with which the Institute has a contract.
“The first thing is that we are referred to New life, we didn’t choose it, but they referred us. I find out after a certain procedure that the stamp of Špen Ramadani was always on my findings, and the doctor was Ali Seven. I asked him during the procedure where your stamp is, you are a doctor after all. In which country does the Government of FBiH issue a decision to a clinic, without first checking whether the doctor has a license”, said the patient, whose identity is known to BHRT.
“I chose the New Life clinic because it is there for me in Sarajevo, but that clinic had good credibility at that moment. The clinic had good reviews because there was another good doctor there,” emphasized another patient, who also wanted to remain anonymous.

The legal successor of the New Life polyclinic – the Northwestern Medical Center polyclinic did not have a permit from the Federal Ministry of Health to perform biomedically assisted insemination procedures. The Federal Institute of Health Insurance and Reinsurance claim that all procedures between them and the polyclinic were legal. Although they claim so, 400 embryos are still in the premises of the closed polyclinic without professional supervision. Therefore, they require the competent patients to determine the compliance of the biological material and embryos with the documentation and issue individual certificates, allowing them to decide for themselves where to transfer the material. And while they wait for the epilogue of the judicial processes, their testimonies, it seems, are just opening Pandora’s box.
