Novak Djokovic (5th ATP) won a new title in his career – 101st overall, after defeating the Italian Lorenzo Musetti (9th ATP) in the final of the tournament in Athens.
The match lasted exactly three hours, and the Serbian ace won with a score of 4:6, 6:3, 7:5.
Musetti opened the match better and made a break already in the third game, which he maintained without major problems until the end of the set – 6:4 for the Italian. At the end of the first set, Djokovic also had problems with his own serve, but he avoided an additional game loss.
In the continuation of the match, a completely different picture was seen. Both tennis players served well, but in the eighth game, Novak reached the first break opportunity and immediately took advantage of it. Then he routinely served to equalize – 6:3.
The third set brought real drama. Djokovic took Musetti’s serve early and took control, but the Italian fought back in the finish.
However, in the long exchanges, Novak showed more calmness and in the decisive moments again took away the rival’s serve, thereby confirming the victory and the new trophy.
With this triumph, Djokovic once again confirmed that he still has the strength and motivation to continue writing the history of tennis.
