In the Republika Srpska for 11 months of this year, about 34,000 violations of illegal parking of vehicles were recorded, it was announced today in Banja Luka on the occasion of the preventive campaign “Park smartly, park properly”.
Jelica Lubura from the Auto-moto Association of the Republika Srpska told reporters that the goal of this campaign, which is implemented throughout the Republika Srpska, is to raise the safety level of pedestrians in traffic, as well as cyclists and drivers of electric scooters.
She stated that, according to global research, pedestrians account for 25 percent of the total number of victims in traffic accidents.
“These are the elderly, children and pedestrians who move along the edges of the road and unlit parts of the roads. All drivers who leave their vehicles on the sidewalks automatically endanger the safety of these road users,” warned Lubura.
Goran Bošnjak from the Traffic Safety Agency of Republika Srpska said that drivers should always be aware that sidewalks are intended exclusively for pedestrians.
“On the other hand, we are sending a message to pedestrians to use the surfaces intended for their movement, namely the sidewalks,” Bošnjak said regarding the campaign that the Agency is conducting with the ministries of transport and communications, internal affairs, the Auto-moto Association of Republika Srpska and local self-government units.
Ilija Smiljanić, an inspector in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the RS in charge of traffic safety, said that this campaign is being implemented to draw attention to the parking problem in the RS and raise pedestrian safety to a higher level.
“Any illegal parking or installation of any obstacles on areas intended for pedestrians contributes to their endangerment in traffic,” said Smiljanić.
He stated that in the 11 months of this year, about 34,000 violations of illegal vehicle parking were recorded in the RS.
The Head of the Department for Traffic Regulation in the City Administration of Banja Luka, Slavenko Tadić, appealed to drivers to respect the regulations and not to usurp any city space intended for pedestrians.
Siniša Rendić, director of Banja Luka Elementary School “Branko Radičević”, said that their students participated in the campaign today by handing out leaflets to drivers and citizens, writes Klix.
