The Semeru volcano on the Indonesian island of Java has erupted again, spewing ash into the sky over the Lumajang region.
According to local authorities, citing the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, volcanic ash reached a height of one kilometer.
“The seismograph recorded a maximum amplitude of 22 mm, and the eruption lasted 165 seconds,” said local officials.
The authorities declared the area within eight kilometers around Semeru an evacuation zone.
At 3,676 meters above sea level, Mount Semeru is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, whose eruptions often result in deaths.
Indonesia, located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, has the highest level of seismic activity and volcanic eruptions in the world, with more than 120 active volcanoes, Index reports.
