A teenager has been arrested after a 70-year-old woman was killed on New Year’s Day in Paisley, where a driver hit her with a car and then fled. Police Scotland said the 18-year-old suspect had been released while the investigation continued, Sky News reports.
Elizabeth Kennedy was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a car on Barrhead Road on New Year’s Day around 7pm. The young man was arrested today.
“The man has been released pending inquiries, the incident took place near the junction of Barrhead Road and Ladykirk Crescent,” a police spokesman confirmed.
“Our thoughts are with Elizabeth’s family, friends and everyone affected by this tragic accident. Police officers will continue to support her family as the investigation progresses,” said Inspector Jan MacColl.
