An earthquake measuring 5 degrees on the Richter scale hit the Japanese prefecture of Fukushima and nearby areas today, the Japan Meteorological Agency announced.
The earthquake occurred this morning at 2:49 local time in the town of Hinoemata and in many other areas in the prefecture, as well as in Tochigi and Gunma prefectures, the Kyodo news agency said in a statement.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers below the Aizu area of Fukushima.
No tsunami warning has been issued.
