A member of the Serbian Army, senior sergeant Milovan Jovanović (36), died as a result of injuries sustained after a missile fell on the United Nations (UN) base in Lebanon, where he was engaged in a peacekeeping mission, the Ministry of Defense of Serbia announced.
According to reports, after being injured, Jovanović was treated urgently in the hospital inside the base, and then transferred by helicopter to the University Medical Center in Beirut, where he died this morning around 4:00 a.m. local time.
In the same attack, two other members of the international forces were injured, one from the armed forces of El Salvador and one from the armed forces of Spain.
Jovanović was born on June 6, 1989 in Kraljevo, and he was employed in the Serbian Army since December 2011. He has been in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon since January of this year.
He is survived by his wife and two minor children.
On the occasion of his death, Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić and Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army, General Milan Mojsilović, sent telegrams of condolence to the family of the fallen soldier.
