The criminal complaint against Sebija Izetbegović was submitted to the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of the Canton of Sarajevo due to suspicion that during the last session of the Assembly of the Canton of Sarajevo, she publicly presented information that is protected by law as it relates to minor victims of human trafficking.
According to the documents that Raport had access to, the report refers to Izetbegović’s speech at the 29th regular session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly held on March 6, 2026, when during the discussion on the case of underage girls who were victims of human trafficking, she presented information based on which it is possible to conclude in which social protection institution they were placed.
Violation of confidentiality of proceedings
Although this is data that, according to the laws on the protection of children and minors in criminal proceedings, is strictly protected, in her speech Izetbegović talked about the place of their accommodation and the political affiliation of the person who manages the institution, which, as stated in the application, indirectly revealed the identity of the institution where the girls stayed.
The applicant considers that the criminal offense of breaching the confidentiality of the proceedings was committed because the public presentation of such information could lead to the identification of minor victims who have the status of specially protected persons in the criminal proceedings.
These are girls who are victims in the case of human trafficking, which is being conducted by the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of the Tuzla Canton against several persons suspected of organized exploitation of minors for the purpose of prostitution.
The documentation also states that, after the disputed performance became public and was reported in the media, the underage girls felt fear because of the possible discovery of their whereabouts. The very next day, they voluntarily left the social welfare institution and walked away in an unknown direction.
Will there be an investigation?
The police were informed about their disappearance, after which a search was launched. After several hours of searching, the minors were found in the area of Sarajevo Canton and taken to safety accompanied by police officers.
In addition to the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of the Canton of Sarajevo, the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of the Tuzla Canton, which handles the case of human trafficking in which minors have the status of victims, was informed about the whole case, writes Report.
In the letter sent to that prosecutor’s office, it is stated that the complaint against Sebija Izetbegović was filed due to suspicion that her public appearance could threaten the safety and integrity of minor victims, as well as violate legal measures to protect their identity.
It remains to be seen what the Prosecutor’s Office of Sarajevo Canton will do and whether they will make a decision to initiate an investigation into this report.
