Meetings of the Team for Protection from Violence and the Team for Crisis Situations were held, and individual plans of enhanced educational work will be drawn up for all involved students.
A video of primary school students performing a dangerous TikTok challenge, in which one of the boys holds his breath until he passes out, has caused widespread public concern. The incident took place at the “Desanka Maksimović” Elementary School in Novi Pazar, and the video was submitted by a concerned parent who came across disturbing content while checking his child’s phone, Serbian media reports.
The video, which circulated among students via mobile apps, showed the boy standing against a wall while the others held him in the chest area. After he loses consciousness, they put him on the floor and try to revive him. The parent who forwarded the video claims that similar incidents have not happened for the first time at this school.
“One of the children in the video is from my neighborhood. This is not the first time such things have happened. The video was freely distributed to groups, and there was no reaction from the school. This child could have lost his life,” said the worried father, emphasizing the need for immediate action.
The school administration announced that upon learning about the incident, they acted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Meetings of the Team for Protection from Violence and the Team for Crisis Situations were held, and individual plans of enhanced educational work will be drawn up for all involved students. Competent institutions were also notified, including the School Administration, the Center for Social Work and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In the coming period, intensive preventive activities are planned in the school, which will involve students, parents and teachers. The goal is to raise awareness of the risks of irresponsible use of digital technology and encourage safe behavior on the Internet. As announced, the Ministry of Education will monitor the further actions of the school.
This case once again pointed out the dangers of viral challenges on social networks and the need for greater involvement of parents, schools and society in protecting children from the harmful effects of digital technology.
