The Italian took his third sprint win of the season at the Phillip Island circuit, more than three seconds ahead of Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez. They were joined on the podium by KTM Racing’s Pedro Acosta, who in the photo-finish was better than the local driver Jack Miller by 66 hundredths.
Although Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo started from pole position, the battle for victory from the start was between Bezzecchi and Fernandez. The Spaniard took the lead, but Bezzecchi kept following him.
Halfway through the race, he made a mistake that cost him a second behind. Bezzecchi still managed to make up time, even after a seagull bumped into him, which you can watch HERE. Nevertheless, he took the lead and broke away.
Behind the leader was a more exciting fight in which, along with Acosta and Miller, Alex Marquez from Gresini and then Fabio Di Giannantonio took part. Di Gia woke up at the end and managed to finish only four hundredths behind the Australian, while Marquez was seven tenths slower. This means that for the first time since the 2023 Portuguese GP, when the sprint races began, no Ducati rider has finished on the podium.
The injured Marc Marquez, who has already secured the championship, leads the overall standings with 545 points, his younger brother Alex is second with 366, while Bagnaia is third with 274, and Bezzecchi is just eight points behind him.
