The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Zenica-Doboj Canton and the Cantonal Forestry Administration warn citizens that due to a long period of extremely high temperatures and dry weather, the risk of the outbreak and spread of forest fires has significantly increased.
We remind you that in accordance with current regulations, it is forbidden to light open fires in forests and on forest land, as well as on other land at a distance of less than 150 meters from the forest. However, due to the current weather conditions and extremely high degree of fire danger, we appeal to citizens to avoid lighting open fires even at greater distances from forest areas, because even the smallest source of flame or spark can cause a fire with unforeseeable consequences.
We especially invite all citizens, hikers, farmers, land owners and other space users not to light fires near forests, not to burn weeds, plant waste and other combustible materials, and to avoid any activity that could cause a fire.
The Cantonal Forestry Administration ordered the implementation of enhanced preventive and surveillance activities in the entire area of the Canton. Forest guards, in accordance with their powers, will intensify control over the implementation of prescribed measures, warn citizens and take legally prescribed measures against all persons whose actions endanger forests and forest land.
We emphasize that timely notification is of crucial importance for successful localization and extinguishing of fires. If citizens see smoke or fire in an open area, especially in forest areas, they should immediately report it to the Professional Fire Department at number 123, which will organize further action in cooperation with the Forestry Society, the Cantonal Forestry Administration and other competent services.
Protecting forests is a shared responsibility of all of us. Responsible behavior can prevent fires and preserve our forest resources, nature, property and human lives.
