A five-year-old boy, who was given a sprinkler by his mother, set fire to a car and caused damage of 30,000 euros, the police of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the west of Germany announced on Sunday.
A 42-year-old mother lit a sprinkler with her son on Saturday in a parking lot in a residential area of the city of Hagen, and then saw sparks flying under a nearby car, where dry leaves caught fire, reports HINA.
Attempts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful, and a car owned by a neighbor was completely burnt.
Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other cars in the parking lot. A lawsuit will be filed against the woman for causing the fire through negligence.
The police remind that sprinklers can still be legally bought and used throughout the year, unlike other pyrotechnics, the sale of which is increasingly restricted in Germany.
