The town on Uni could soon become a new gathering placebocce fans.
On the initiative of Zlatko Arnautović Barba and a group of enthusiasts, a bocce club was founded in Bihać with the aim of reviving this traditional sport in these areas and becoming a place for socializing, recreation and sportsmanship.
According to the president of the newly formed club, Jadran Husetić, citizens’ interest in bocce is surprisingly high.
– Our expectations regarding membership are that we will certainly have about a thousand members because there is great interest in this. For now, we have founded an association whose Assembly has 20 members. He chose me, deputy chairman Zlatko Arnautović, as president. These are all people from Bihać who have the time and desire to promote bocce through socializing – said Husetić.
One of the club’s first goals is to build a bocce court in the city center, which would be accessible to all citizens, not just club members.
– We are planning to ask the City of Bihać to grant us land on a public surface. The field would be owned by the City, and we would take care of it. We want it to be a space open to everyone, a place where people will gather, socialize and learn bocce together – explained Husetić.
Bocce, although almost forgotten today, was once present in Bihać. There were courts, but over time they disappeared due to a loss of interest. The new club wants to change and renew the sports tradition and make bocce a part of everyday life for the people of Bišća.
In addition to local activities, Boćarski klub Bihać also plans to connect with similar clubs in neighboring cities and countries of the region.
– Our intention is to visit the cities where bocce clubs operate, to get acquainted with their work and experiences. This will help us improve our organization as well – added Husetić.
Boćarski club Bihać is currently in the process of registration with the competent ministry, and the call for membership is already open.
– We invite everyone who is interested to join us – there will be nice socializing and sports fun. Our goal is to learn, compete and enjoy this wonderful sport together – said Husetić.
