Representatives of the Coalition of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, led by President Harun Aliefendić, visited Adnan Šabani, Minister of Spatial Planning, Transport and Communications and Environmental Protection of the Zenica-Doboj Canton.
They discussed the need to introduce budget items for architectural and sensory accessibility, with the aim of improving the position of people with disabilities and removing obstacles in public buildings and spaces.
– It is necessary to take concrete measures to improve accessibility in institutions of public importance, as well as plans for continuous financing of accessibility projects. A representative in the ZDK Assembly, Alen Kapković, reacted immediately and submitted the Initiative for the development of an Accessibility Strategy for people with disabilities in the Zenica – Doboj Canton. Accessibility is a basic prerequisite for realizing all human rights of persons with disabilities and equal participation in social life – said Minister Adnan Šabani.
People with disabilities in many cases face numerous architectural, digital and administrative barriers, which makes it difficult for them to have equal access to public facilities, information and services, which is why the representatives of the Coalition of Organizations of People with Disabilities ZDK requested from the line ministry and the Government of ZDK the urgent drafting of the Accessibility Strategy for People with Disabilities for the period 2026-2030. year.
– Each strategic document contributes to the continuous resolution of certain issues, and accessibility is one of the main problems for people with disabilities. By creating the Accessibility Strategy, we will not only be the first canton to create it, but in cooperation with the Ministry, we will encourage local communities to continuously work on this issue, which is of vital importance for people with disabilities in ZDK – said Harun Aliefendić, president of the Coalition of Organizations.
It was also discussed the need to enable people with disabilities easier access to the hall of the Zenica-Doboj Canton Assembly, which is located in the annex of the RMK Transport building, so that they can attend meetings and other events.
– I am aware of how important it is to create a society with equal opportunities and access for all citizens. Therefore, I will do my best to fulfill these requests and support the implementation of the initiatives. Our fellow citizens with disabilities and mobility difficulties deserve full attention and support because their inclusion and equality are the foundation of a humane and advanced society – concluded the Minister for Spatial Planning, Transport and Communications and Environmental Protection of the ZDK Adnan Šabani.
Minister Šabani also promised to put into procedure the development of a project to cover the entire Main City Highway (GGM) with tactile guides, which are a basic element of accessibility and enable blind and partially sighted people to move independently, orient themselves and find their way in space.
