The representative of the contractor, Radis doo, and the director of the Zenica mixed industrial secondary school, signed today in the headquarters of the Zenica-Doboj Canton the contract on the performance of the II phase of the reconstruction of the indoor swimming pool located within this school.
The signing was attended by ZDK Prime Minister Nezir Pivić and Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Mirza Mušija.
– Generations of people from Zenica learned to swim in this complex, but also used it recreationally. We are determined to complete the reconstruction of this facility for the sake of our students, sports schools and all the citizens of Zenica – said Prime Minister ZDK Nezir Pivić.
With an additional 2.38 million KM for the second phase, the Zenica-Doboj canton has so far invested more than 3 million KM in equipping the indoor pool. According to the contract, the works of phase II should be completed within four months.
– We announced this project as capital and today we see how that story is being realized. We got a contractor and I believe that we will soon have all the conditions for the second phase to be completely completed. I congratulate the director of the Industrial School and our colleagues. The government is determined to work and invest in infrastructure, and this facility will be of great benefit to many – said Minister Mirza Mushija.
A third phase is also planned, which would include the reconstruction of the devastated gymnasium, where elite level basketball, handball and volleyball matches were once played.
The indoor swimming pool in Zenica was built in 1970, and after 46 years of operation, it was closed in 2016. Thanks to the ZDK Government, led by Prime Minister Pivic, funds were provided to make this important facility available to citizens again.
The director of the school, Elvedin Botić, emphasized that this project will significantly improve conditions for students and sports teams.
– We have finally reached the moment when we witness the final stage of preparations for the pool to be operational. After all the activities we carried out, from legal proof of ownership to technical preparations, we are grateful to the ZDK Government, Prime Minister Pivić and Minister Mušija for their understanding and support. Children will finally be able to learn and improve swimming in their own town. For eight years, our students have been taking Physical Education classes in the City Arena because of the devastated gymnasium. We have promises that the third phase will also go ahead, which would restore the function of the hall – said director Elvedin Botić.
This pool was an important sports center for decades — not only the people of Zenica learned to swim in it, but also a large number of people from Sarajevo, while the clubs PK Zenica-Željezara and later GKVS Čelik Zenica created champions and record holders of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its reopening will enable the development of new generations of swimmers and the return of Zenica to the top of Bosnia and Herzegovina. swimming.
