The exterior landscaping project includes the renovation of footpaths, installation of modern urban furniture, improvement of public lighting, introduction of an automatic irrigation system, as well as horticultural landscaping with new seedlings while preserving the existing green areas. Special attention is paid to safety, accessibility for people with reduced mobility and a quality stay in the space.
For the development of the main project, the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo, as an investor, entrusted the work to the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Sarajevo – Institute for Architecture, Urbanism and Spatial Planning. As part of the creation of the conceptual architectural design of the “Heroes Square” Park, a participatory process was realized in which citizens and users of the space actively participated through three public panels.
The panels were organized by students on the Architecture of Community subject, with the mentoring and professional support of subject teachers, with the aim of involving the local community in the process of shaping this public space.
With the renovation of the “Trg Heroja” Park, this area will get a new face – a modern park with green areas, modern furniture and improved infrastructure, which will become a meeting place, recreation and daily residence for all generations of residents of New Sarajevo. The contractor is the company “MIBRAL” doo Sarajevo, and the value of the project is about 680,000 KM.
