Swiss authorities said Wednesday that a 39-year-old woman had been arrested after a dismembered body was found in France.
The woman, who lives in the Swiss village of Sainte-Croix, was placed in pre-trial detention after border patrols arrested her on November 2, Vaud canton police said.
The police state that the suspect is suspected of starting a fire in her apartment and being involved in the disappearance of her landlord, a 75-year-old Swiss.
Multiple AFP sources said the man’s body was found on Saturday in the village of Fedry in the French department of Haute-Saone, in eastern France. The body was cut in half at the waist, it was dressed only in underwear and covered with a white substance.
According to prosecutor Arnaud Grecourt, the body had a burn on the back and multiple injuries on the skull, arm, neck and torso. A preliminary autopsy suggests the man died of bleeding caused by a stab wound to the chest, and his body was apparently cut in half after death.
The police of the canton of Vaud are working in coordination with the French authorities. She is a suspect under investigation and is suspected of deliberately setting fire to her apartment on Sunday, after which she was arrested and questioned by border patrols.
Police emphasized: “At this time, she is still considered innocent.”
The suspected woman and the missing man lived in the same village near the border, about 100 kilometers from Fedry, which further complicates the investigation and cooperation between the two countries.
