US Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday that testing the US nuclear arsenal is important to ensure the weapons are “functioning properly”, without specifying what kind of tests.
“It is important for the national security of the United States that we make sure how our nuclear arsenal actually works, and that is part of the test regime,” Vance told reporters at the White House, responding to questions about President Donald Trump’s announcement on social media about the ordered tests.
He added that “the president’s statement speaks for itself.”
