According to Ukrainian intelligence, the Freedom of Russia fighters have been active since the beginning of the Russian invasion and today are one of the most effective resistance movements operating inside Russia.
Their attacks targeted locomotives used by Russian forces to transport weapons, ammunition and equipment for military operations against Ukraine.
The announcement states that the attacks were carried out with Molotov cocktails in order to disable key parts of the railway transport used to supply Russian troops.
“Molotov cocktails by the participants of the underground resistance burned the control and energy systems of dozens of engines that were used to transport military cargo. These strikes significantly slowed down the movement of enemy resources and affected the stability of the supply of Russian military units at the front,” reads the announcement of the DIU.
Lukoil’s major oil refinery in Russia’s Volgograd has shut down after being hit by Ukrainian drones, three sources familiar with the matter said today.
Ukraine has been attacking Russian oil refineries, warehouses and pipelines for the past few months, and Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has also been a frequent target of Russian attacks in the war, which is approaching its fourth year.
Russia did not comment on the information about the attack on the trains, but the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today that units of the Russian group “Center” prevented three attempts to break through Ukrainian forces from the encirclement in the Pokrovskoe area and repelled 13 attacks aimed at unblocking the besieged formations.
In Pokrovsk itself, assault groups of the 2nd Army continue to destroy the besieged Ukrainian forces in the eastern part of the Central District and in the area of the western industrial zone. Russian forces are also clearing the settlements of Hnatovka and Roh of Ukrainian soldiers. During the day, 64 buildings were liberated, and two members of the 68th Fighter Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were captured, the ministry pointed out.
At the same time, in Mirnograd, units of the 5th Motorized Rifle Brigade, according to Russian claims, advanced in the direction of the “Zapadni” microdistrict and liberated 19 buildings. According to reports, the “Center” group improved its tactical position and inflicted defeat on Ukrainian units in the areas of Torecko, Rodinsko, Dobropolje and Kotlino settlements.
The Russian Ministry of Defense says that the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are in a critical situation and that “they have no chance of salvation, except for captivity.” The statement added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “is either trying to keep the real situation quiet, making statements about cleaning up those areas, or has completely lost touch with reality.”
