– We don’t expect major problems, but we should be aware that melting snow represents a danger for landslides – Uk told reporters at the mentioned location.
He added that about two-thirds of the houses covered by the Civil Protection order of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo have already been evicted and called on the remaining residents to evacuate as well.
Uk repeated that Sarajevo Canton is not responsible for that landslide, but that they could not wait for the authorities to act and had to engage their capacities.
He pointed out that they unsuccessfully appealed to the civil protection of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Srpska, as well as the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, considering that the landslide is on the entity line, and poses a danger exclusively to the citizens and property of the Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Uk stated that the Canton of Sarajevo allocated 1.6 million KM for rehabilitation, and the entire public procurement procedure will be carried out by the Municipality of East Stari Grad, on whose territory the landslide occurred.
Director of the Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection Sarajevo Dženan Brkanić explained that in the event of a landslide, they will react in accordance with the protocol and procedures previously worked out with the Stari Grad Municipality, the KS MUP and the Professional Fire Department.
He emphasized that they are monitoring the situation on the ground when it comes to landslides and water levels and that they are reacting as needed with all capacities.
