Traffic safety in Bosnia and Herzegovina is not satisfactory, which can be concluded on the basis of official and available data.
“Indicators indicate us the need for emergency and systematic action, primarily in the institutional-control framework in which traffic safety must be a strategic goal, commitment and obligation” said for Fen Doc. dr. Adnan Omerhodžić from the Faculty of Transport and Communations University of Sarajevo, asked for assessing frequent news about traffic accidents, often and on the mortal suffering of people on the roads.
According to him, urgent systemic action involves the creation of road traffic safety and accompanying action strategies and programs such as: strengthening institutional cooperation of the key carriers of traffic safety, education, spatial arrangement, etc.); Improving security and technical elements of traffic infrastructure; Improvement in the technical correctness segment, as well as improvement in the training system and training of participants in traffic, especially young drivers.
This year, the number of recorded traffic accidents in relation to the number in the same period last year, referred to in the same period, stated the Police Directorate of Sarajevo Canton. It was also said that the most common causes are: improperly rearrangement, overtaking, unadjusted speed, movement backwards on a short part of the road, insufficient distance between the vehicle and the negation of the passage championship. These causes are recorded in more than a quarter of all recorded traffic accidents.
When it comes to accidents whose participants are motorcyclists, in the first five months of these years, 14 were recorded, for six more than last year in the same period. In the first five months, two motorcyclists were mortally killed, and in the previous, in the comparable period, none.
Police Directorate of the Sarajevo Canton Canton, continuously implemented by preventive and repressive measures whose goal is to reduce the number of traffic accidents, especially the suffering of people on roads. Equally, in accordance with the elaborations, the technical capacity used by the police administration is improved whose goal is to detect improper and risky behaviors in traffic and sanction the perpetrators.
Sarajevo Canton from year to year recorded the growth of the number of vehicles on August, and the road infrastructure is not developed by equal intensity, which leads to crowd.
More precautions in traffic, minimizing interfering factors such as the most common use of mobile phones, as well as attention to pedestrian and cyclists, would certainly contribute to the increase in traffic safety, the Sarajevo Canton Administration.
