A member of the Special Police Unit of the Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, a handler of service dogs, together with a service dog of the Belgian Shepherd breed, successfully completed several months of international training held in Skopje, North Macedonia.
The training was organized by the OSCE Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina and FRONTEX, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency.
The training was carried out as part of a project that the OSCE Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina is implementing with the aim of reducing security risks associated with illegal possession, misuse and trade in small arms and ammunition. One of the key segments of the project is strengthening the capacity of K9 teams in police agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through advanced training in the detection of weapons, ammunition and explosives.
During the education, demanding theoretical and practical tests of the handler’s knowledge were carried out, while the service dog underwent intensive training that included obedience exercises, searches of terrain, premises and vehicles, and other specialist operational tasks.
Thanks to the high level of professionalism and realistic operating conditions during the training, the K9 team of the MUP ZDK was successfully certified according to international standards, which confirmed the expertise and training of the police officer and service dog.
The Police Administration points out that this type of training represents an important investment in the safety of citizens, the strengthening of operational capacities and the professionalization of police work, and it contributes to modern and efficient actions aimed at protecting public order and peace.
