The Republic of Italy provides support to rural areas in BiH

Conducted since May 2021. by November 2024. year, the project aimed to strengthen sustainable economic development and environmental protection in agricultural areas of local communities that have often been neglected due to complex natural and geographical challenges.

“Through more than three years of implementation, the Anc BiH project has brought concrete and technical support to local communities, strengthening cooperatives and associations, but also the construction of a strategic basis for the further development of rural areas,” the ANC BiH coordinator pointed out. “This is the first initiative that dealt with the challenges and potentials of agriculture in areas with natural constraints in BiH,” Hungaric emphasized.

The project contributed to the improvement of knowledge and capacity of domestic institutions, and is especially important to emphasize professional training, the development of GIS maps and legislative analyzes to help aligning with EU law.
“The project has set the foundations that enable strategic planning of rural development and fairer distribution of agricultural incentives, especially for those who work in difficult conditions,” Madžarić stated.

The ANC BiH project is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy (Maeci), through the Italian Development Cooperation Agency (AICS). It was implemented by the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute in Bari (CIHEAM BARI), in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH (MoE) and relevant institutions at the state, entity, cantonal and municipal levels as well as the Brcko District. The project has invested more than 1,000,000 KM in 11 municipalities: Bužim, Berkovići, Bratunac, Donji Žobar, Glamoč, Goražde, Fojnica, Kupres, Posusje, Rudo and Brcko District. In addition to investment in infrastructure and equipment, there were comprehensive socio-economic analysis of 109 municipalities, 62 experts in Italy were trained, and rural development strategies were developed for nine municipalities.

After the successful implementation of the ANC BiH project, the support of rural communities continues through the new project PROBIH – “Promoting local biodiversity through innovative actions on a natural basis in the BiH agri-food sector.” The initial conference of the project I would be held a day after the final conference ANC BiH – on Wednesday, 28.
