The sixty-year-old man was saved after the Ferrat Berti, a rocky mountain trail at a height of 2,500 meters in the San Vito Di Cadore area, where tens of paths were closed due to the high risk of rocky stones.
Nicola Cherubin, Chief of Rescue Service in San Vito Di Cadore, was a man from passing Paso Tre Croci, in the Province of Belluno, around Ferrate Berti, bypassing the warning signs, who were written in English and Italian.
He called for help on Thursday around 15:30 after he disturbed the stones that began to fall. “He said he was not aware that the trail was closed and did not see the signs,” Cherubin emphasized, adding that two helicopters were attended by the rescue, as well as several members of the rescue team.
He pointed out that the man was lucky to be alive, although his hiking adventure and Brexit brought him an account of 14,225 euros, of which 11,160 euros went to cover the costs of the 93-minute helicopter.
A few days earlier, two mountaineers from Belgium were saved in similar circumstances, but received a significantly smaller account because Belgium is a member of the European Union.
Radoned stones regularly happen in the dolomites, but in the last two months, a significant increase in their number was recorded, encouraged by extreme heat. Erosion and ward stones are all frequent wide. At the end of June this year, Mount Blanc recorded a record heat wave, with temperatures that have been over zero for a longer period, including the very top of the mountain.
