Minister Forto emphasized that the transparency is owned by the media is the foundation of public confidence and free information, and that citizens have a clear insight into who owns and regulates media facilities.
The OSCE representative to Braath pointed out that freedom of expression is the basic democratic right, but also that it must be responsible. He stated that professional and independent media were key to preserving a democratic order.
The interlocutors said it is necessary to work on harmonization of domestic legislation with European standards to ensure a functional and independent public service, and built solid foundations for the free and accountable media sector.
At the end of the meeting, it was jointly concluded that without freedom of the media there is no free society.
