As part of the global campaign “16 days of activism against violence against women”, a press conference was held today in Zenica where the first Solidarity Race “With her, for her freedom” was announced, the aim of which is to support women who have survived violence and empower them after leaving safe houses.
The Ministry of Labour, Social Policy and Refugees of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, together with campaign partners, Medica Zenica and the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, emphasized the importance of stable financing of safe houses, strengthening the protection system and raising awareness of the ever-present violence against women.
– The tragedies we are witnessing oblige us to stand even more strongly with women who survive violence. We must encourage women to report violence on time, and institutions must clearly show that they are there for them. The Zenica-Doboj canton has continuously supported the work of the Medica Zenica safe house since 2010, and today’s allocations are three times higher than in the beginning. The solidarity race is a strong message of unity and an invitation to all citizens to show support and empathy – said the Minister of Labor, Social Policy and Refugees, ZDK Antonio Šimunović.
The solidarity race will be held on November 23, 2025 at Alija Izetbegović Square in Zenica, and all the income from registration fees will be directed to the fund for the economic empowerment of women who leave safe houses.
The Ministry invites all citizens of Zenica and ZDK to join this important event and jointly contribute to the fight against violence against women.
