With its victory over Slovenia, the Icelandic national team confirmed its place in the next stage of the World Handball Championship. The placement was confirmed by the national teams of Sweden and Spain, who drew in a very exciting match, writes SCSport.ba.
In group F, Sweden drew with the Spanish national team with a score of 29:29, which was enough for them to secure a place in the next stage as the first place, where they will play in group 3. The match offered a lot of excitement and mostly even play on both sides. , and especially the exciting ending, and a draw turned out to be the most realistic. Lagergren was the most effective in the ranks of Sweden with nine goals, while Sole stood out the most for Spain with seven goals.
Iceland defeated Slovenia with a score of 23:18 and, as the first place in Group G, qualified for the second stage of the competition, i.e. Group 4. From the very beginning of the match, the Icelanders imposed themselves as a superior rival and already after the first 30 minutes they had “plus six” (14 :8). The Slovenians played better in the second half, but it was not enough to turn things around. Kristjansson led Iceland to victory with seven goals, while Janc and Makuc were the most effective in Slovenia with three goals each.
These meetings concluded the first phase of the World Handball Championship, which is being held this year in Norway, Denmark and Croatia.
The second phase of the competition includes four groups of six teams each, with each transferring points and goal difference from the first phase to this one. The two first-placed national teams from each group will advance to the quarter finals of the championship. The competition in the second phase begins on Wednesday, January 21.
