The European Handball Championship starts today. On the first day, a total of four games are scheduled in groups A and C.

First day schedule:

- Group C: France – Czech Republic (18:00), VOYO
- Group A: Germany – Austria (20:30), RTL 2
- Group C: Norway – Ukraine (18:00), VOYO
Group A is reputed to be one of the most uncertain in the tournament, and it is opened by a duel of Spain and Serbia. These two national teams also met during the qualifiers for the European Championship, with each winning one. In the second game, the same groups will compete Germany and Austria.

The Croatian national team is placed in the group with Sweden, the Netherlands and Georgia.

Competition format
They will be organized in the second phase of the tournament two new groupsin which the two best teams from each group of the first round of the competition will be placed.
Teams that secure passage to the next round will transfer the points won in each other’s trials with national teams that have also qualified.
In the case of placement among the top eight, the Croatian national team will compete in the second round with teams from groups D, E and F, where they will not play again against the opponents they met in the first stage.
The first two national teams in each group of the second round will qualify for the semifinals, while the teams that finish in third place will play a playoff for fifth place in the championship.
