Director of the University Hospital in Foča, Nenad Lalović, confirmed the occurrence of typhus in Foča, but emphasized that there is no cause for concern, writes ATV.
– The information published in the media, I must say, is too bombastic and has no medical, professional basis. When it comes to typhoid, it is a disease that occurs endemically in India and when entering the countries of Europe and the world, it is not on the list of diseases that are subject to control. Even a person can be a germ carrier, at the moment he enters the country he has absolutely no symptoms and later develops symptoms of the disease – said doctor Lalović for the ATV portal.
Speaking specifically about the case of a student from India in whom the disease was confirmed, he said that she was feeling well, but had developed complications after which she was successfully operated on.
– Seven to ten days ago, she was hospitalized at the Department of Infectious Diseases due to stomach pain and high temperature, where, among other things, it was suspected to be typhoid, where the disease was confirmed. Later, she developed a complication of acute appendicitis, which is one of the complications of typhus, where the student was operated on very successfully – emphasized Lalović.
– After that, all possible measures were implemented, epidemiological surveillance, contacts with everyone she came into contact with. All stool and urine tests, because bacteria are excreted through stool and urine, that have been done so far are negative. So there is absolutely no reason for concern and the epidemiological situation is absolutely under control – Lalović added.
He said that this is the first case in decades that has been registered in Foča, reports NOISE.
