The event was organized in the cooperation between Bihac and the Cantonal Ministry of Construction, Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection, with the aim of forming a quality and comprehensive document that will respond to the challenges in nature protection and sustainable development.
The central part of the workshop was the presentation of the Nlogic Advisory Consulting Company, engaged from the line ministry through the public procurement system. The representatives of the company presented a detailed analysis of the current state of the environment in the UKK area, with a special emphasis on Bihać as an administrative center.
Key segments of the environment – water condition, air quality, waste management, soil health, biodiversity, noise level, and opportunities for improving energy efficiency and greater use of renewable energy sources.
– Our task is to identify the most critical points when it comes to environmental protection, so that we can prepare a draft plan that will then be addressed to a public hearing. – Clarified Mercija Talić, Assistant Minister for Environmental Protection and Communal Activities.
The workshop also had additional value as it enabled the gathered experts and representatives of relevant institutions to exchange information, amend the existing data and point out local specifics to be integrated into the future document.
Although local communities are not legally obliged to participate in this process, the city of Bihać recognized the importance of active participation in all phases of plan development.
– We are aware that a quality cantonal document cannot be caused without the participation of local communities. That is why we invited all relevant actors to get involved, in order for the plan to be applicable and efficient and in the area of our city – said Vildana Zulić, Assistant Mayor Bihać.
In addition to representatives of the City Administration, the workshop was attended by members of the Environmental Protection, Professors of the Faculty of Bihać, experts from the U.SC Institute, representatives of the competent cantonal ministries, and public companies and private sector representatives.
The Environmental Protection Plan will be the foundation for future decisions in the field of natural resources, and its importance is also reflected in the harmonization with national and international environmental standards during the workshop.
