The chairman of the BBC apologized on Monday for an “error of judgement” involving the editing of a speech by US President Donald Trump, which resulted in the resignation of high-profile figures at the British broadcaster.
– We accept that the way the speech was organized left the impression of a direct call to violent action. The BBC would like to apologize for this error of judgment – said Samir Shah in a letter to the parliamentary oversight committee.
The BBC’s director-general and his news anchor resigned on Sunday after it emerged that a former foreign policy adviser had raised concerns about impartiality over the editing of a Trump speech to suggest he directly encouraged an attack on the US Capitol in 2021.
