Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy Antonio Tajani said in Thursday that Europe must play a role in the peace process for Ukraine, when asked to comment on the United States’ proposed peace plan, Ansa reported.
The plan would reportedly entail Kiev ceding large parts of its territory to Russia and having to significantly reduce its military.
– It is difficult to comment on the leaking of information to journalists – Tajani said when he arrived at the meeting of the Council for Foreign Affairs in Brussels.
– We will analyze it (the plan) in detail when it is presented. As has always been said, Europe has a role to play.
“Ukraine also represents a security barrier for Europe. If Ukraine falls, the risks for Europe increase and we absolutely cannot accept or allow that – he said.
Tajani added that he has no objection to seized Russian assets being used to support Ukraine as long as a way is found to do so legally.
– It is a purely legal issue, not a political one – he said.
– We have to see how it can be done and how to also guarantee the stability of the Eurozone. Legal experts must now conduct a detailed analysis together with the European Central Bank – said Tajani.
