The quarter-final matches will be played on Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29 in Zagreb and Oslo. Croatia and Hungary will play tomorrow in Zagreb (6:00 p.m.), and France and Egypt (9:00 p.m.), while on Wednesday in Oslo Brazil and Denmark (5:30 p.m.) will meet, followed by Germany and Portugal (8:30 p.m.) in the last quarter-final match.
The celebrated BiH handball player and BiH representative Enid Tahirović reflected on the course of the competition so far and singled out the Danes as the big favorites of the World Cup. In his statement to Feni, Tahirović said that Egypt and Brazil were certainly nice surprises in terms of the best teams in the world, but that Spain, Sweden and Norway were disappointing.
– I think that many did not count on the passage to the quarterfinals of Brazil and Egypt, but handball connoisseurs also expected that Spain, Sweden and Norway would certainly reach this stage of the competition. As for the quarter-finals, the favorites are clear, and I can see the only uncertainty in the match between Portugal and Germany, although I think that the German goalkeepers will prevail in that match – said Tahirović.
He expects the victories of the powerful selections of France and Denmark, as well as Croatia, which should not have any major problems in front of the home audience against the Hungarians.
– Denmark has been the favorite for the last 14 years and that hasn’t changed, except that they are even bigger favorites than before. After the game they have shown so far, I don’t believe that even the strong selection of France can’t do anything to them. If someone manages to get them, it will really be a big surprise. I don’t think there have been any bigger favorites in the last ten years. All segments of their game are really powerful – says the former national team goalkeeper.
He added that he likes the format of the World Cup with a larger number of participants.
– In my time, unfortunately, only 24 teams played in the World Cup. I am sure that our generation would have played every World Cup if the number of teams had been greater than today – concluded Tahirović.
