Maduro was transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, where he is being held awaiting trial on drug and arms trafficking charges. It is a prison that has an extremely bad reputation and is often described as a facility with harsh and inhumane conditions.
Famous inmates like R. Kelly, Ghislaine Maxwell and Sam Bankman-Fried previously stayed in the same detention center.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump said that the United States of America will temporarily manage Venezuela until the transfer of power, with the announcement of taking control of the huge Venezuelan oil reserves.
Štimac published a message on the X social network in which he drew a parallel between Maduro and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, using sharp and politically intoned vocabulary.
“Maduro and Vučić, two of the same friends, function according to the same pattern as leaders of criminal groups, not presidents of states. One keeps people in line for bread, the other in line for work and fear. The same mechanism: leader = state, media occupied, elections stolen. The only difference is where they are on the timeline and who will judge them”Štimac wrote.
His announcement quickly attracted attention and caused numerous reactions on social networks.
For a long time, Vladimir Štimac has been considered one of the most vocal athletes when it comes to supporting student protests in Serbia. From the very beginning of the students’ rebellion, the former basketball player regularly advertises, uses social media and publicly expresses solidarity with their demands.
He showed such commitment during the previous year, and according to everything, he will continue with the same attitude during 2026.
