British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the meeting with the US President Donald Trump could be a “historic step” for the safety of Ukraine and Europe.
– I think we could do a truly important step forward today, the historic step could actually arise from this meeting in terms of security of Ukraine and security in Europe – said the starter during a meeting with Trump and European leaders in the White House.
The British Prime Minister said that the Trump’s security guarantees (Article 5 NATO) corresponds to the work that “coalition will” – the main European ally of Ukraine – performs in recent months.
He added that the coalition is “ready to take responsibility” when it comes to insurance of the security of Ukraine.
What is Article 5. NATO? It is part of the Contract of the Association on the “Collective Defense”, which stipulates that the attack on one ally is considered an attack on all allies, and members will take mutual measures.
Trump has previously rejected frequent calls to security guarantees – some way to ensure that Russia would not violate an interruption agreement, or rebuild offensive in Ukraine for several years.
