South Korea’s defense ministry said on Saturday it condemned North Korea’s missile launch into the sea off its east coast on Friday, urging the neighboring communist state to stop escalating tensions between the two Koreas.
The statement also said it was “regrettable” that Pyongyang criticized the joint annual military exercise and meeting between the United States and South Korea.
To recall, North Korea fired a ballistic missile towards the sea near its east coast on Friday, following missile launches in the past two weeks and after US President Donald Trump renewed his call for talks with Pyongyang, South Korea and Japan said.
The Japanese government also said North Korea fired what could be a ballistic missile, which it said likely landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said there were no confirmed reports of damage.
