Kevin Kampl, former Slovenian national team player and long-time member of RB Leipzig, has not been in competition for the team for a long time. His last appearance was recorded on October 8 in a friendly match, while his last appearance in official Bundesliga matches was in September, when he got only symbolic minutes in three rounds.
Since then, he has not even appeared on the German first division bench, and the reason for his absence is officially considered personal.
German media such as Bild and Leipziger Volkszeitung announced in recent days that the 35-year-old midfielder, after a long-term problem with injuries and a heavy family loss, allegedly made the decision to leave Leipzig.
Kampl has been a member of the club since 2017, and the current contract binds him until the end of the season, but according to information from BILD, both parties are considering the possibility of an early termination of cooperation.
Additional speculation was fueled by the news that Kampl returned to his native Solingen, which is why the public began to speculate even about the possible end of his playing career.
However, there is no official confirmation of this yet. After the death of his brother, the experienced midfielder trained according to an individual program, away from the public eye, reports Gol.hr.
RB Leipzig itself reacted to the media reports and emphasized that the final decisions have not yet been made and that the situation is extremely sensitive.
“Over the past few weeks, we’ve had several open and honest conversations with Kevin about these very special circumstances and his family situation. There are several options on the table, but no decisions have been made yet. If there’s anything to announce, of course it’s up to Kevin to let us know.
This is a private situation, I would like more consideration and sensitivity from some people, especially since nothing has been decided yet. The most important thing for us, which also influenced our actions in the last few weeks, is the well-being of Kevin and his family,” said the club’s sporting director Marcel Schäfer.
