After several years of stagnation, the airport is again recording significant growth, which is confirmed by the increasing number of passengers and routes. Since the beginning of the year, around 90,000 passengers have been served to 13 destinations covered by Wizz Air, as well as to Istanbul, with two airlines.
“The arrival of the second base plane allows for an increase in operational capacity, more flights and a better connection of citizens with Europe. By expanding capacity, the network of destinations from Tuzla is expanding, including important European cities,” said airport director Dževad Halilčević.
Among the new destinations, Bratislava stands out, which is back on the flight map after the cancellation of the route to Vienna. Passengers will be able to travel to this city four times a week.
“This line also has significant economic potential, both for the Tuzla Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for Slovakia. It is expected that it will contribute to the development of tourism, strengthen business ties and facilitate the mobility of the labor force and the diaspora,” said Slovak Ambassador to BiH Roman Hloben.
The development of new lines is accompanied by continuous investment in infrastructure. Last year, the Government of Tuzla Canton allocated 1.5 million KM, while this year significantly larger funds are planned, more than 5 million KM for infrastructure projects and an additional 2 million KM for subsidizing flights.
“We plan to increase the number of incoming passengers at the end of 2026 and thereby increase subsidies. I can say that when it comes to investments in the Tuzla airport, there is no limit. We will do everything necessary for the airport to reach the top level, and the Government of the Republic of Turkey stands by the stabilization and development of the Tuzla airport”, said the Minister of Transport, Trade and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Almir Žilić.
In 2025, 340,000 passengers were recorded, while the airport management plans to end this year with a record 760,000. Expectations are also directed towards the arrival of Wizz Air’s third base plane, as well as new airlines with which negotiations are ongoing.
