The verdict encompasses more criminal offenses – murder, cheeky stealing and possession of narcotics.
According to the verdict, Novalija was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the murder, for the stealing in three years, while he was given another year in prison for drug possession. The Court sentenced a unique imprisonment of 20 years.
The crime occurred in August 2023. year, when in the apartment in Cemerlin Street, in the area of Sarajevo municipality, the old town was killed by the 76-year-old Esad Shaffer. After the murder, Novalija ran away from the crime scene, but was soon arrested in a high thanks to the rapid reaction of members of the MUP of the Zenica-Doboj Canton. He then handed over to the authority of the Sarajevo Canton Police.
During the investigation, Novalija recognized the execution of crimes. This is not his first murder – he was already convicted of a similar crime. Namely, in April 2008. The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo sentenced him to six and a half years in prison for the murder of steel. This crime occurred in the Sarajevo settlement of Ahatovići, in the house of the Mother’s Chamber, and according to the then proceedings, the motive was non-emerified relations and earlier conflicts.
