The organizers of the meeting are the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the Ministry of Building, Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection of Una-Sana Canton and the City of Bihać.
Sabina Šahman-Salihbegović, Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, emphasized the importance of active involvement of local communities in decision-making processes.
– We are aware that we cannot seek solutions to this problem without direct participation of local communities. That is why we have signed the initiative for the ‘Partnership for Una’ with all eight municipalities of Una-Sana Canton, aimed at ensuring an adequate response to this challenge. Through these meetings we want to clearly transfer the previous information to representatives of local government and get insight into their experiences and suggestions – said Shahman-Salihbegović
Vildana Zulić, Head of the Development Management, Communal Activities and Environmental Protection of the City of Bihac, expressed satisfaction that the Bihać hosts this gathering.
– This meeting is crucial for informing the public, political entities and civil organizations on the plans of the Republic of Croatia in connection with this project. It is important that everyone is familiar with the reasons for its construction, the specifics of the project and long-term environmental and health risks that can bring, especially for agriculture and tourism – is a pointed out Zulić
During the gathering, the participants had the opportunity to present attitudes, ask questions and express concerns about the potential impact of this project on everyday life and the environment.
It was concluded that this form of public debate is an important step towards the active participation of the community in decision-making, which will form the future of the region.
