Residents of the Tuzla suburbs that gravitate to Thermal Power Plants have complained about increased dust concentrations in recent days, while expressing concern for their health. Klix.ba has received confirmation of the cause of the current condition.
Residents of the Tuzla suburbs of Šićki Brod, Bukinje, Lipnica and Husino in recent days have noted increased concentrations of polluting dust, expressing concern for their health, as well as the health of the rest of the population.
According to information that was officially confirmed to Klix.ba, the cause of the large concentrations of dust is in the Tuzla Thermal Power Plant, i.e. a malfunction that occurred in Block 5.
The director of the Tuzla Thermal Power Plant, Fuad Muminović, confirmed for Klix.ba the increased emissions of solid particles from Unit 5, which was operating in the past period, stating that specific smoke was also noticed as a result.
“Through monitoring, we determined emissions beyond the limits and reported the case to the relevant ministry. Block 5 is out of operation and work is currently being carried out on its overhaul, i.e. to carry out the rehabilitation of the electrostatic precipitator. We expect that the work of this block will be established at the beginning of November,” Muminović told us.
Due to the new situation, the mayor of Tuzla Zijad Lugavić also reacted, and as stated in the press release, in accordance with the urgency sent to the management of the Tuzla Thermal Power Plant and Elektroprivreda BiH, Block 5 was immediately shut down.
By the way, Block 4 is currently in operation at the Tuzla thermal power plant, but it is not sufficient for the planned production of electricity, and a reduction in production is being recorded.
